Buenos Aires is located near the Rio de la Plata River. The La Plata River was explored by Juan Diaz de Solis sometime in 1516.

 

Pedro de Mendoza came through the area around 1536. The same year the city received its name.

 

Juan de Garay came to Buenos Aires in 1580; he explored the Parana River.

 

Among those associated with Buenos Aires are Armando Maradona, Carlos Gardel, Anibal Troilo, Edmundo Rivero and Juan D’Arienzo.  

 

Buenos Aires celebrates the Argentine Crafts & Traditions Fair, Marathon for Women, the Buenos Aires Tango Festival, Feria de Galerias de Arte, World Rally Championship, the International Video-Dance Festival and La Rural International Exhibition.

 

Other Buenos Aires celebrations are the World Tango Festival, the Snow Carnival, National Tango Day, Teatro Colon Opera, the International Guitar Festival and the Argentine Open Championship.
